It’s been quieter around here than I would’ve liked this week. I’ve been running around like a crazy woman, finishing up last-minute errands. I’m headed to L.A. for a few days to see my grandma and my dad, and then it’s off to Phoenix to see my suegros (in-laws).
I’m purposely not taking my computer so this feels more like a vacation. Have I mentioned to you how much I need a vacation? I’m already envisioning the frosty margarita I’ll be sipping poolside at my in-laws’ place in Phoenix.
Hope you have a great week!

No computer? That sounds like crazy talk! You’ll be with family so you’ll probably be pretty busy but if you get to the South Bay area, my brother lives there and there are some great Japanese and downhome Hawaiian eateries I can recommend. Enjoy!

Jay: I know, right? But I find that if I bring the computer, suddenly two hours go by and I haven’t looked up from my keyboard. 🙂 Appreciate you offering restaurant recs. I don’t think I’ll be traveling much further than Whittier/Montebello/Pico Rivera, but I’ll let you know if I do.

Have fun Lesley!!

Thanks! I plan to.

Will you eat any Mexican food while in LA? Or, do as I do, avoid it as much as possible while in the States, and eat lots of Asian food, especially Chinese Dim Sum and Vietnamese. We are soon headed to NJ and Pastrami and Corned beef heaven. (Well, there’s some very good pizza, too.)
We didn’t get any Korean food while in the SF Bay area last month. We’ll try to remedy that. Englewood cliffs is not far from where we’ll be.
Que tenga un buen viaje.

I actually like trying Mexican food while I’m in the States. A friend has raved about Casa Mexicana, I think it’s called, in LA. We’re going to Barrio Cafe in Phoenix, and we plan to hit this paleta place I read about. I’m sure we’ll get Asian food (specifically Thai or Vietnamese) while we’re there too.
As for Korean food, there’s always the Zona Rosa in Mexico City!

Have a great relaxing vacation! You should visit Chicago one day….. great food and lots of it.
Lesley
I’ve been to Chicago only once, maybe four years ago. I loved it. It was summertime, so the weather was beautiful and everyone was outside. I ate at Frontera Grill and had drinks at a champagne bar (Pops?). It was lots of fun — I’d love to go back someday.

Macayos is probably the oldest and most famous Mexican place in Phoenix. You should check it out.
Lesley
My in-laws know and love Macayos — thanks for the tip. 🙂

If you’re in a hurry, want a drive thru and are in Pico Rivera, try Pepe’s on the corner of Telegraph Rd and Lakewood/Rosemead Blvd. Their shredded beef fried tacos and taquitos with guacamole are to die for. Yum, yum.
Platanos, Mangoes and Me!
You go and have a good visit. I will be in Puerto Rico for three weeks and hope to do some postings from there. Happy vacation!
